The short version: Your gratitude entries live on your device. We don't collect personal information, we don't run ads, and we don't sell your data. The only external service Gratas contacts is the AI that generates your daily prompts.
What Gratas Collects
Gratas is designed to keep your data on your device. Here's what the app stores and why:
- Gratitude entries — your daily responses and any bonus entries you write or dictate, stored locally on your device.
- App preferences — your notification schedule, reminder settings, and theme choice, stored locally.
- Streak and progress data — your current streak, total entries, and personal best, stored locally.
None of this information is transmitted to us or stored on our servers. It lives only on your iPhone.
AI-Generated Prompts & Reflections
Gratas uses Claude, an AI service by Anthropic, to generate your daily gratitude prompts and optional weekly/monthly reflection summaries. When generating a reflection summary, a summary of your recent entries is sent to Anthropic's API in order to personalize the response.
This means a portion of your gratitude entries may be processed by Anthropic's servers. Anthropic's handling of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models by default.
Daily prompts are generated without sending any of your personal entries to the API.
Voice & Microphone
If you use the voice input feature, Gratas accesses your microphone and uses Apple's on-device Speech Recognition framework to transcribe your words into text. Audio is processed on your device and is not sent to our servers. Apple's handling of speech data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
In-App Purchases
Gratas offers optional tips and a Super Supporter upgrade via Apple's App Store. All purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment information.
Notifications
Gratas sends local notifications as daily reminders. These are generated on your device and do not involve any external servers or services.
Analytics & Tracking
Gratas contains no analytics SDKs, crash reporters, advertising networks, or tracking tools. We do not know how often you use the app, what you write, or anything else about your activity.
Children's Privacy
Gratas is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
